Okay, so you want to find backlinks your website has, but you do not want to use any tool. This guide is going to be extremely helpful. In this guide, I will show you how to find backlinks to your website using Google Search Console.

So before I start this guide, here's a quick question.

Why to find backlinks to your website?

Finding backlinks is extremely important because it helps you understand more about your website. Backlinks can make or break a website's SEO.

Good backlinks can make your website jump higher in Google, while bad backlinks, like low-quality or web 2.0 backlinks, can penalize your site and stop it from growing.

We can't write down every link that we build.

So the first and the most crucial tool that we can use to track our backlinks is Google Search Console.

It helps you check inbound links as well as outbound links to your website.

How to find backlinks to your website using Google Search Console?

To find backlinks to your website using Google Search Console, you first need to open your property.

Now scroll a bit and after the section of security and manual action there is a tab “Links”.

After clicking on it, you will see two main groups.

  • External links
  • Internal links

External links section further has two sub-sections:

And on the right side, there are internal links.

So, the left-hand side has all the outbound links information and the right-hand side has all the inbound links information.

When you click on “more” under “External Links”, it shows you a detailed view. Here you can see three main things.

1. Top target pages

It only shows pages of your website that have one or more outbound backlinks.

2. Incoming links

It shows the total number of links Google can confirm against your target page.

3. Linking sites

It shows the number of websites corresponding to the number of links against your target page.

Just like the Google search console is showing that the home page of “reputepost.com” has 82 backlinks coming from 42 different websites..

And beneath this, you can see the “Top sites linking to this page” section.

This is basically showing you the number of backlinks from a specific website.

And when you click on any of the sites, it lists all the pages from where your webpage is getting links.

The other sub-section is “top linking sites.” This section shows you the data of external websites that are pointing to specific pages on your website, which helps you understand how link juice in SEO flows to your pages.

The last section is “top linking text”. It shows you “link text” or mainly known as “anchor text”.

This is how you find backlinks using Google Search Console.

Besides Google, you can use other platforms to find backlinks pointing to your website. That includes:

  • Bing Webmaster Tool
  • Ahrefs
  • Semrush
  • Moz
  • Keywords Everywhere

And many others.

If you want to stick with free and trustable resources, Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tool stands at the top.

I hope this guide helped you learn how to find backlinks using Google search console. In case you have any questions or want to reach out, simply comment or try from the contact box area.
