When it comes to link building, link relevancy is by far the most crucial link building metrics.

Yet it is widely discarded and SEO professionals fail to understand what it is all about.

The concept of relevancy is super and simple.

If you want to get quality backlinks, then:

Website A has to be relevant to website B.

In this article, I will tell you all aspects regarding link relevance.

This guide will also answer some popular questions regarding link relevancy, just like:

  • What are relevant backlinks in SEO?
  • What makes backlinks relevant?
  • Does content contribute to link relevance?
  • Is link relevance important for SEO?
  • What are niche-relevant backlinks?
  • Is there any page-level relevance?
  • What are relevant backlinks examples?
  • What are non-relevant backlinks examples?
  • How to get relevant backlinks?
  • What types of relevant links do Repute Post recommend?

Okay, so we have so many questions regarding link relevance and I wanted to educate you every bit of link relevance. So I have divided them into four main parts, starting with:

  • Domain-level link relevancy
  • Page-level link relevancy
  • Content-level link relevancy
  • Context-level link relevancy

So without further ado, let’s start.

1. Domain level Backlink RElevancy

Domain-level link relevancy is the first and most crucial factor to consider. You need to determine whether the other website is truly relevant to your domain. It’s quite simple to understand that you just need to analyze what your website is all about.

For instance, a repute post is fully relevant to websites operating in the SEO, digital marketing, or link-building space. However, websites that are unrelated to SEO, digital marketing, or link building will have very little relevance to your site.

For example, a website operating in the social media space will not be directly relevant to Repute, and the chances of gaining meaningful backlink value from it are low. To determine whether a domain is relevant, you first need to understand both your own domain and the other domain. This context will help you decide whether it’s worthwhile to pursue a backlink from that site.

2. Page level Backlink relevancy

Once you’ve determined that a domain is fully relevant to your website and established domain-level relevancy, the next step is page-level relevancy. Page-level link relevancy can be divided into two main scenarios:

  1. When you want to post a guest article.
  2. When you want to include your link in already published content.

For example, let’s take a repute post. To get a solid backlink with 100% relevancy, you first need a website with domain-level relevancy. Then, you must find a page that discusses niche edits or popular link-building strategies. If the page doesn’t cover your niche or relevant link-building topics, your link will not have 100% page-level relevancy.

When a backlink has low page-level relevancy, it passes much less link equity or page rank, reducing its ability to help your site rank higher.

3 Content level link relevancy

Content-level relevancy has two main areas. The first is when you are dealing with already published content, and the second is when you have to submit a new piece of content, which is commonly known as guest posting.

After determining domain-level relevancy and page-level relevancy, if you are providing a new post meaning you are going for a guest post, you need to make sure that your website is fully in line with the content you are preparing and that it is also directly relevant to the website where it is going to be published.

For instance, if I want to do a guest post on a website that focuses entirely on SEO and I want to include the link to my white-label link-building services, I would prepare a topic like “Top Nine Best Practices to Know Before Outsourcing Link Building.”

This topic is fully relevant to both my website and the other website where the content will be published. It will be easier to include the link to my white-label link-building services in that article, and the link will provide good value for my website. A good value and, obviously, a do-follow link will be pointed to my website. This results in a solid article as well as a valuable backlink.

However, if we are going after a niche edit, I have to make sure that the existing content on the other website complements or is relevant to my website.

For example, to get a link for my white-label link-building services, I need to ensure the website has a page that primarily discusses popular link-building strategies or top link-building services. These types of resources are ideal for a link insert.

4. Context level link relevancy

The last part is context-level link relevancy. So far, we have checked three main things to reach this point. First, we identified that the domain on which we will be posting a link is fully relevant. Next, we determined that we have page-level relevancy. Then, we verified that we have content-level relevancy.

Now, depending on whether it is a guest post or a link ingestion, the process will differ. For instance, if it is a guest post, I need to ensure that the context, the nearest context in which my anchor text or link is added is fully relevant. With guest posts, managing this is generally easier.

However, when dealing with niche edits adding a link to already published content, it becomes trickier. Often, webmasters do not allow new paragraphs or sentences, so you must work within the existing content. This leaves very little flexibility.

This is also where many SEOs make mistakes: they try to force their anchor text into inappropriate or misleading places just to get the backlink. While it will still count as a link, it will not pass as much page rank compared to a contextually relevant placement. So, instead of just focusing on how many backlinks you need to rank, it’s crucial to prioritize relevant and contextually placed links that actually pass value.

Context is therefore extremely important. For example, if a page is about on-page SEO and I try to add a niche edit link about link building, it would be forced and unnatural. But if the existing content discusses link-building tactics or methodologies, then adding my link becomes natural, resulting in a good, high-quality backlink.
